Fishing In the Placencia Area

If you love fishing, but don’t get to go often enough, lucky for you, a great day of fishing can be had on a day outing while staying at the Belize Tree Top Villa.  Here we have compiled a preview of a casual fishing outing in the Maya Beach / Placencia area.  Of course if you’re looking to take a sport fishing holiday to catch the “grand slam” that includes Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit, we’ll detail that in a separate upcoming blog post.

The Fish

Just off the coast and on a day trip in the region, there are snapper, barracuda, snook, and jack fish, to be caught. The barracuda have quite the teeth, but unless you’re using a metal leader, they will likely bite through the fishing line.

Your fishing outing

As I mentioned, Belize is a great destination for sport fishing, but novice to experienced fisherman will enjoy the day and half day trips, when mixing their vacation up with other activities besides fishing. Your can either go on a guided fishing outing, or your can take the fishing equipment at the villa to make your own fishing adventure.

We have, and many of our villa guests, have taken fishing trips with Max.  You can arrange your outing with Aaron, our concierge, who is located at the Cocoplum sales office.

You can create your own fishing adventure with the light duty fishing gear in the storage room at the villa.  Here you will find a two person sea kayak, along with fishing poles and tackle to fish the waters off the Cocoplum neighborhood or from the pier a short walk away from the villa but still within Cocoplum.

Your catch of the day

Before after plates of fish copyAfter a day of fishing you can either bring your catch of the day back to the villa.  The villa has a full kitchen with everything you need to prepare your catch.  There are also grocery stores in Maya Beach and Placencia to get the ingredients you need to season it to your taste.

Or if you’re not in the mood to do the preparation and clean up, you can bring your catch in to Omar’s Restaurant.  Below is the before and after photos of a wonderful post fishing dinner at Omar’s, where we brought our yellow and red snapper, prepared with Creole seasoning, and coconut curry.
